The northern lights can be seen from beginning of October till beginning of April.
During the polar night the sun never rises above the horizon. The polar night in Utsjoki lasts from 27th November till 17th of January. It’s not completely dark during the polar night. There is a so called blue hour every day. The stars, the moon and the northern lights brighten up the snowy white scenery.
The snow usually falls at the end of October or early November.
A stress-free Christmas in the polar night is a different and unforgettable experience.
In Utsjoki Norway is always close – just take the Sámi Bridge over the Tana River. And it’s only an hour’s drive to the Barents Sea. By the Barents Sea the scenery is different – there are rocky cliffs, and a bendy road following the seafront. The Barents Sea is beautiful also in the winter. It never freezes over. Crossing the border to Norway is hassle-free as there are no formalities and the border is always open.
