Paistunturi and Kaldoaivi Wilderness Areas are excellent destinations for hiking and day trips. Hikers doing the 63 kilometre Kevo Trail can relax at Lomatärppi before heading home. The first frost in the middle of September brings out beautiful autumn foliage; for many this is when the nature is at its most beautiful. During this time guests who enjoy hunting can go up the fells to find willow ptarmigans.
During the polar night in winter, the sun never rises above the horizon. A stress-free Christmas in the polar night is a unique experience you will never forget. In the spring when the bright sun is reflecting off deep snow, skiing up on the fells offers unique experiences. The best season for ice fishing is from March till mid May. You can catch arctic char, brown trout and European grayling at the lakes nearby.
Fishing permits for the Utsjoki River can be bought at Lomatärppi for 20 € / day.
In Utsjoki Norway is close – just cross the Tana River using the Sámi Bridge. It is only an hour’s drive to the Barents Sea. On the shores of the Barents Sea the scenery is completely different. There are rocky hills, and a bendy road follows the shoreline. The Barents Sea is beautiful also in the winter. It never freezes over. In Norway you can enjoy lovely seafood. The king crab safaris take you out to the sea for a spot of fishing. Crossing the border to Norway is straightforward; there are no formalities and the border is always open.

The Mighty Ailegas Fell dominates the views of the Utsjoki village. You can easily reach the top by taking the service road up. From the top of the fell you have breathtaking views of the Tana River Valley and Utsjoki village. The Utsjoki River flows beautifully at the bottom of the fell before it joins the mighty Tana River.
There are marked hiking routes, Sámi huts and campfire sites up on the fells.
